Tribunal Affirms Gov Peter Mba’s Victory in Enugu

THE Enugu State Election Petition Tribunal has affirmed the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’ Candidate, Peter Mbah, at the last March 18 governorship election.

The Tribunal delivered its judgment on Thursday.

The tribunal’s three-man panel chaired by Justice Kudirat Murayo dismissed the petition of the Labour Party (LP)’s Candidate, Chijioke Edeoga.

The panel held that Edeoga’s case lacked merit.

One of the key evidence filed by the LP’s candidate was that of the fake National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate of Governor Mbah, over voting at the polls and other petitions.

The tribunal, however, held that the said certificate is not qualification required to contest for the governorship election.

“NYSC discharge Certificate is not a qualification for governorship.

“Assuming that the NYSC discharge certificate of the second Respondent as claimed by the Petitioners was forged, is the NYSC Certificate a qualification to contest for Governor in Nigeria according to the constitution?

“The answer is no,” the tribunal held.
