Tottenham Managed To Beat 9-man Liverpool
TOTTENHAM left it late to defeat Liverpool 2-1in their English Premier League (EPL) clash on Saturday.
A Joel Matip own goal broke Liverpool’s hearts at the dying minute of the match to gift Tottenham the win.
The Reds finished the game with only 9men after Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota bagged red cards in either halves.
Liverpool’s Jones was shown a yellow card in the 26th minute of the clash, but a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) intervention meant the initial yellow was rescinded and changed to a red.
10minutes later and Richarlison laid a sweet pass on to in-form Heung-Min Son for Tottenham’s opener.
The half looked liked Tottenham’s to lose, especially with Liverpool a man down, but Cody Gakpo had other ideas as brought the Red level in the fourth minute of 1st half stoppage time with a right footed shot.
1-1 it ended, parity at the break, but dismay fro Liverpool overall.
Tottenham piled on the pressure after the break with James Maddison tested Allison in goal early in the half.
Son came close later in the half but the Reds Brazilian showstopper was up to the task.
Despite a dodged performance,Allison will thanks his stars Tottenham couldn’t capitalize after his blunder in the 63rd minute was mopped up by skipper, Van Dijk.
Liverpool’s woes were compounded in the 69th minute when Diogo Jota charged into Spurs Leftback, Udogie and was shown a second yellow card, marching down the tunnel with Liverpool 2man down.
It seemed inevitable that Tottenham will snatch all three points given the numerical advantage, but Liverpool dug up a spirited defence to shut out the in-form Tottenham side at their home ground.
Liverpool eventually caved though when Pedro Porro’s cross in the 6th minute of 2nd half stoppages was turned into the Liverpool net by Red’s defender, Joel Matip, for an own goal.
Spurs, despite Liverpool’s dogged performance, ran away with all 3points as they surge to 2nd on the EPL standings, 1point behind league leaders, Manchester City.
