Our Goal is to Top The Group – Peseiro

SUPER Eagles Coach José Santos Peseiro says his team does not just plan to qualify for the Round of 16 at the ongoing AFCON, but to do so as the winner of their group.

Though Nigeria look good for a spot in the next round with their four points after beating hosts, Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday, Peseiro insisted that the three-time African champions will not be complacent against Guinea Bissau on Monday.

“We defeated Cote d’Ivoire, but that is already in the past. We know that in football, what counts is the moment. We must temper our confidence, and put in more work as required. We must not rest.

“We want to take the first place and for that, we must do battle. We must do what is necessary to accomplish our mission tomorrow,” Peseiro said at the pre-match conference on Sunday.

Monday’s opponents are the only team to have beaten the Super Eagles in a competitive match since the Portuguese took over as the Super Eagles coach.

“We are not thinking about revenge but we are here to top the group and they are in our sights. We must do what has to be done. Guinea Bissau have no point and will play with freedom, and that is when a team becomes dangerous.”

Equatorial Guinea, also on four points, will fight for a spot just like Cote d’Ivoire when they meet the hosts at an encounter that will take place  simultaneously at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpe.
