Court Stops Police From Arresting Edison Ehie
… Over House of Rivers Assembly Explosion
A Court in Rivers State has granted an ex-parte motion filed by Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to Governor Sim Fubara, against the Nigerian Police.
Ehie had approached the High Court in Port Harcourt, asking it to restrain the police and other security agencies from arresting, detaining, or harassing him over his alleged involvement in the explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Justice Sika Aprioku granted the order and adjourned a hearing of the substantive application to February 6th, 2024.
The Rivers lawmakers had written a criminal petition against Ehie to the Rivers State Police Command over the invasion and arson attack on the chambers of the State Assembly by unknown hoodlums.
In the petition against the Chief of Staff to Governor, the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the House of Assembly had asked the police to arrest and prosecute Ehie for his alleged involvement in the fire incident at the Assembly Complex on October 29, 2023.
