THE Super Falcons sealed a place in the final qualifying round of the 2024 Olympic Games following a 1-0 victory against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon on Monday.
Esther Okoronkwo’s 14th minute goal was all the Nigerians needed at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja to ensure they were victorious after a two-legged tie.
Okoronkwo hit the target following a goalmouth scramble following pressure by the home team on their visitors.
Jennifer Echegini came close to doubling the Super Falcons’ lead a minute after the hour mark but the Juventus midfielder was denied from close range by the Cameroon goalkeeper.
Nigeria will face either South Africa or Tanzania in the final round.
South Africa, who are the current African champions, hold a 3-0 advantage going into the second leg.
