Ghana Court Labels Popular Investigative Journalist, Anas ‘Blackmailer’

FAMOUS Ghanaian investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas has been labelled ‘blackmailer and extortionist’ by a court in the West African country.

“From the above, I hold that the plaintiff is a blackmailer who uses blackmail to extort money from his opponents and people he does not like,” Justice Baah of the Accra High Court said.

“What the plaintiff is doing is not investigative journalism but investigative terrorism,” the judge added.

Justice Baah therefore, dismissed the defamation suit filed by Anas against the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

The Justice stated that the case lacked merit.

He, however, noted that although the words spoken against Anas were factual and capable of defamation, they could not be proven.

The presiding judge subsequently awarded costs of GH¢50,000 against Anas.

Justice Baah, a Court of Appeal judge, was sitting on the case with additional responsibility of a High Court Judge.
