Seun Kuti to Remain in Police Custody Till Monday
POLICE in Lagos have secured an order from the court to detain Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti till Monday.
Seun’s lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, said Thursday, that the Lagos State police command had approached the Magistrate’s Court in Yaba for variation of the bail earlier granted to the embattled singer.
Olumide-Fusika, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria – SAN, said that Seun was not represented in court on Thursday as the police did not inform his legal team that they were appearing in court.
He said that the Magistrate refused the application and extended Kuti’s detention till Monday.
Seun, the son of late music legend, Fela Anukulapo Kuti has been at the State Criminal Investigation Department – SCID, Panti, Yaba since Monday after he turned himself in at the police station.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba had ordered the arrest of the Afrobeat musician after a video of him assaulting a uniformed police officer went viral on social media last weekend.
