ABOUT 35 secondary school students Tuesday collapsed and were hospitalised after they were affected by teargas used by the police during morning drill in Osun State.
The students of Fakunle Comprehensive High School Osogbo, Osun State capital were affected by the breeze of the tear-gas.
The incident occurred while the students were inside the classroom. Some of the pupils reportedly fainted before being taken to the hospital.
The school was forced to close for the day.
Authorities said that the policemen were holding a memorial exercise in honour of their fallen colleagues in Benue State.
The Osun State Police Command through its spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that the police did not fire the teargas inside the school but they were just using it for their drill.35
