THE Economic Community of West African States – ECOWAS, military Chiefs are set for a meeting in Ghana to fine-tune strategies on a possible military intervention in Niger.

The meeting is set to hold on Thursday and Friday.
The Ghana meet is a sequel to the 2nd Extraordinary summit held in Abuja last Thursday by ECOWAS leaders.
In that summit, the leaders put Military forces on standby in an effort to reinstall the deposed Leader of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, and “preserve democracy” should dialogue fail.
“No option is taken off the tables including the use of force as the last resort,” the Chairman of ECOWAS, President Bola Tinubu states after the summit.
“We prioritise diplomatic negotiations and dialogue as the bedrock of our approach.”
“Regrettably, the seven-day ultimatum we issued during the first summit has not yielded the desired outcome.
“We must engage all parties involved, including the coup leaders, in earnest discussions to convince them to relinquish power and reinstate President Bazoum.
“It is our duty to exhaust all avenues of engagement to ensure a swift return to constitutional governance in Niger,” President Tinubu had recounted.
The African Union (AI) has also lent its weight behind the resolutions of ECOWAS and pledged its support for it.
The imminent Thursday-Friday meet was initially billed to hold in Accra, Ghana last Saturday but had to be rescheduled.
