The Lionesses of England have defeated the Matildas of Australia to make it to the Finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

England won 3-1 in the Semi-Finals in an entertaining encounter against the tournament Co Hosts, Australia, on Wednesday afternoon.

England took the lead in the 36th minute through Ella Toone, who’s curler inside the box found the top right corner.

Australia made forays in search of the equalizer but England stood strong.

Despite a couple of shots on target and the best efforts of star striker, Sam Kerr, Australia failed to find the leveller and went into the break 1-0 down.

The second half was pulsating as expected, with Australia knocking on the door.

The leveller for the Matildas came in the 63rdminute and it was through no other than the star player, Sam Kerr, whose solo run ended with a ferocious shot into the back of the England goal.

England returned the pressure and reclaimed their lead 8mins later, in the 71st minute, through Lauren Hemp.

The game was well alive by now, with fans on the edge of their sits, Australian fans vocal as ever in cheering their team on.

Australia thought they had equalized in the 85th minute when, following a corner kick, the rebound fell to Chelsea star, Sam Kerr, but, from 3metres away from goal, Kerr’s shot slightly missed the target.

Australia lived to regret that as, soon after, a counter attack by England ended at the feet of star striker, Alessia Russo, whose low shot wrestled into the bottom corner of the Australian goal.

6minutes of stoppage time was awarded, but even that could not deny England, as they held strong and preserved their lead to win the game 3-1.

England go through and the Matildas of Australia live to fight another day.
