AFCON 2021: Gambia Records Historic Win Over Angola, as Nigeria Struggles to Beat Benni Rep.
Gambia caused an upset by securing a historic away victory against Angola after beating their host 3-1 on the opening day of qualifiers for the 2021 African Cup of Nations.
Wilson Eduardo put Angola ahead just after two minutes, but FC Zurich striker Cessay scored two goals in two minutes for the Gambia before Sulayman Marreh added a third for the visitors on the stroke of fulltime.
It was the first away victory from 39 matches in a Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifier for the Gambians.
Nigeria struggled to beat neighbours, Benin Republic 2-1.
Stephane Sessegnon opened scoring for Benin in the 9th minute. Victor Osimhen convert a spot-kick before the end of the first 45 a second half foal by Samuel Kalu ensured a narrow win for the Super Eagles.
Goals from Sidy Sarr and Habib Diallo were enough to seal a convincing 2-0 victory for Senegal against Congo.
