AFCON: Guinea Score Late Against Equatorial Guinea to Reach Q-finals
GUINEA scored with the last kick of the game to end Equatorial Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations and book themselves a slot in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 victory at Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium on Sunday.
Mohamed Bayo’s header in the eighth minute of stoppage time in the last-16 clash was enough to secure victory against Equatorial Guinea, who were down to 10 men in the second half.
“It was a very satisfying victory. We had a lot of criticism after our group games but my players got due reward for all of their work,” said Guinea coach Kaba Diawara.
“The course of the game changed when we had a key player sent off and then we missed the penalty. It was very difficult to recover from these two blows,” said Equatorial Guinea coach Juan Micha.
Guinea now meet the Democratic Republic of Congo and Egypt in San Pedro.
