Africa, Russia to Partner in Education Science
A Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum Summit has outlined proposals to African nations to help boost education and science in the region.
This was revealed by the Roscongress Foundation on Tuesday.
In a panel discussion titled, ‘Building a common future: Educational and scientific opportunities of Russia for Africa,’ plans on education and science were outlined.
The Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, Social Work and International Relations at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Stanislav Surovtsev, expressed Russia’s desire to work with African countries on education.
“It is very important that we lay the foundation for fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation right now,” Surovtsev said.
The President of the Pan-African Movement, Kemi Seba, pointed out how the Western model of education is still being used in Africa till date.
“We have African school programmes, but they are European and American, and we ought to have our own,” Seba pointed out.
In a similar vein, the Governor of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra, Natalya Komarova, explained that Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area –Yugra were putting in place logistics to accommodate more influx of African students.
From oil and gas, energy, and medicine to IT, Komarova stated that more African students will be welcomed to study in these fields of education.
“There are already more than 400 international students studying with us, approximately 20 from Africa, and we are prepared to do more in this respect–to increase the number of students from Africa in Yugra,” Komarova stated.
