Airfield Closed as Airplane Skids Off Lagos Airport Runway
THE airfield at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, was temporarily closed on Friday evening after an airplane skidded off the runway.
The airfield was later reopened at 8:10 p.m same day.
The airplane has been identified as one of United Nigerian airlines with registration number 5NBWY.
“At about 20:00hrs, passengers were evacuated from the affected aircraft, with no casualty,” the source said.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has now confirmed the incident.
They made this corroboration in a post on social media application X (formerly known as Twitter).
NEMA confirmed that 51 passengers and 4 crew members were onboard the aircraft.
“A United Nigerian Airline 51 passengers and 4 Crew United Nigeria airline with registration number 5NBWY skidded off the local runway while trying to land under a very high rainfall at about 18:48 hours.
“All passengers evacuated successfully without casualty.
“The airspace has been opened for operations now,” NEMA confirmed.
