Council Suspends LG Chairman in Ogun After Accusing Gov. Abiodun of Diverting Funds

THE Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun state, Wale Adedayo, has been suspended over allegations of financial mismanagement and maladministration.

The decision was reached after a majority of seven out of the eleven councilors that comprises the local government legislative council signed off on the suspension.

The Chairman will now face 3months suspension as a result, with the allegations to be investigated.

A total of 15 allegations were brought against the suspended Chairman who has now been ordered by the legislative council to appear at its next sitting on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

Among the allegations, Adedayo was accused of withdrawing N4 million from the local account for empowerment in 2022 which never materialized.

The suspended Chairman was also accused of mismanaging N2 million on Isese Day on August 20, 2022.

The suspension slammed on Adedayo comes a couple of days after Adedayo accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of diverting local government funds.

Before then, Adedayo claimed that armed policemen invaded the Ogbere community in a plot to impeach him.

“Invading the peaceful Ogbere community with mobile policemen in order to impeach Wale Adedayo is desperation.

“As I told the SSG yesterday, we took an oath with our fathers that we’ll make this land better than we met it.

“You can kill the body, but not the spirit of Wale Adedayo,” the suspended Chairman had stated in a Facebook post earlier.

Despite his many claims, Adedayo, along with other local government chairmen, had tendered an apology to the Governor for funds diversion claim.
