Court Orders EFCC to Release Emefiele Immediately
THE High Court of the Federal Capital Territory – FCT, Abuja, has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission – EFCC, to release former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria – CBN, Godwin Emefiele unconditionally and with immediate effect.
Justice Olukayode Adeniyi gave the order as he delivered ruling in an exparte application, challenging the continued detention of the detained former CBN boss.
Alternatively, the EFCC are directed to produce Emefiele in court on Monday, November 6, 2023, which is the date fixed for the hearing of the substantive Motion on Notice, with the possibility of being admitted to bail by the court.
The applicant named the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Attorney-General of the Federation, (AGF) the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, and the EFCC itself as the respondents.
Emefiele was detained for over four months by the Department of State Service – DSS, over allegations bordering on fraud and abuse of office following his suspension from office by President Bola Tinubu.
