Court Returns Sowore to Prison

AfriqueCAN:
PRESIDENTIAL flagbearer Omoyele Sowore will remain in prison pending the Court’s decision on his plea for bail.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court Abuja, Wednesday ordered that Sowore be returned to Kuje prison while fixing June 30 for ruling on the activist’s motion seeking the restoration of his bail and the setting aside of a bench warrant issued against him.
Justice Umar adjourned the matter after parties adopted their processes in the application.
The court had on June 16, revoked Sowore’s bail, and issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he missed a court date for his trial.
Sowore is facing alleged cybercrime and criminal defamation filed against him by the Department of State Services over claims that he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” in social media posts.
Sowore has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
