A High Court sitting in Kano state has ruled against the suspension of the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) 2023 Presidential Candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso by the party.
This ruling was reached by Justice Usman Na’aana on Tuesday.
Justice Na’aana also granted an interim injunction restraining Agbo Major, Boniface Aniebonam, and other 16 respondents from parading themselves as NNPP national officers or leaders pending the hearing and determination of the motion of notice.
Only recently, the Aniebonam and Major group of the NNPP, which controls the party’s Board of Trustees, suspended Kwankwaso on August 29, 2023 over what it described as “anti-party activities.”
They linked these activities to President Bola Tinubu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared winner of the Presidential elections; his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Atiku Abubakar; and Labour Party (LP)’s Peter Obi.
After Kwankwaso failed to appear before the Board’s disciplinary committee, the Board moved to expell the Kano politician from the party on these grounds.
Kwankwaso was also accused by the Board of mismanagement of funds.
Following the ruling, the court has now fixed October 5, 2023 for the case to be heard.
Rabiu Kwankwaso is an ex Kano State governor, who came fourth in this concluded 2023 presidential election.
