THE Egyptian government has completed the furnishing of 192 out of 800 alternative-housing units allocated to citizens who used to live in slums.
The north African country’s ministry of Social Solidarity made the announcement.
Egypt launched the slum elimination initiative in 2016.
Minister Navine al-Qabbaj said that the number of alternative-housing units that have been furnished so far, has amounted to 21, 624 located across 12 neighbourhoods.
As for the cost, the ministry recorded LE756, 193,000.
The furniture purchased per unit includes, two bedrooms, dining room, living room, kitchen, pillows, bedsheets, TV, fridge, washing machine, cooker and water heater.
The ministry promised that it is committed to 11, 581 alternative-housing units in the coming period at a cost of LE984,385,000.
