EPL: Chelsea Force Liverpool to a Draw

Chelsea and Liverpool played out a draw in their opening English Premier League clash on Sunday evening.

The game ended 1-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool got the opener in the 18th minute when Salah caught out the entire Chelsea backline napping with a lovely pass in behind for Luiz Diaz to latch on to.

The visitors appeared to have scored a second goal through Salah, but the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ruled it out for offside in the 29th minute.

Chelsea then equalized in the 37th minute through new signing, Alex Disasi, following a corner kick and an assist from Assistant Captain, Ben Chilwell.

Chilwell then moved from provider to scorer in the 39th minute after being played through one-on-one and rounding off Liverpool goalie, Allison, to score.

Again, VAR stepped in an ruled this one out for offside.

The second half was a completely different encounter with Chelsea totally dominating proceedings and knocking on the Liverpool goal time and time again.

Nicolas Jackson really should have scored when through on goal late in the half, but fluffed his lines for the second time running.

With the match wearing on, Nunez, had a curler from outside the box, deflected by new signing and substitute, Lesley Ugochukwu.

Chelsea should have, then, wrapped up the tie after Mudryk rounded Allison in 2nd half stoppage time, only for the chance to go begging after the forward strayed far away from the goal mouth target.

1-1 was how things ended in a pulsating start to Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp’s opening match.
