THE Federal Government has filed new 20 Count charges against the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor – CBN, Godwin Emefiele, at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
The oral application was filed on Tuesday, the Director of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar confirmed.
According to Abubakar, the FG filed an application to withdraw the earlier charge of illegal possession of firearms filed against Emefiele at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi.
It will be recalled that, on July 25, the ex CBN was indicted on a two-count charge bordering on illegal possession of firearms.
While speaking after the court proceeding on Tuesday, Abubakar, explained that the withdrawal of the old charges, and the fresh charges applied against Emefiele, was as a result of extensive investigations carried out.
