THE Federal Government of Nigeria has approved N185 billion palliatives funds for 36 states of the federation.
The news was disseminated to newsmen on Thursday.
This comes after the August edition of National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The NEC meeting which was presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima revealed that the funds were meant for the purchase of food items.
According to the Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, in light of the fuel subsidy removal, the palliatives funds would serve to provide a temporary reprieve to citizens.
Zulum explaines that each state will receive 5billion palliatives fund.
Each state will be allocated five trucks of rice.
He explained that 100,000 bags of rice and beans among other items will be purchased with the funds.
While explaining further, Zulum explained that the distribution will not be even as more states will receive more allocation, like states that border Niger Republic.
This, according to NEC, was owing to the inflow of refugees fleeing the cris in Niger Republic.
