FIFA WWC: England’s Lauren James Bags 2-Match Suspension
England star, Lauren James, has been handed a 2-game ban by the Federation International Football Association (F.I.F.A).
This much was gathered by AfriqueCan on Thursday.
The ban follows after her red card for a stamp on Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie in England’s win over the Super Falcons in the last 16 round.
In the 87minute, a Video Assist Referee (VAR) intervention was needed to revoke an initial yellow card brandished into a red card for the foul.
Red card offences normally incur only a one-match ban, but FIFA reserves the right to stretch the ban, depending on the severity of the case.
In this instance, the World governing body increased it to a two match ban.
Despite the sending-off, England managed to take the game to penalty shout-outs before prevailing over the West African side.
Should England go all the way to the Finals of the World Cup, Lauren James will be eligible to make her return.
