THE military junta in Gabon have arrested and charged the son of deposed President, Ali Bongo, and his allies with high treason and corruption.
The State Prosecutor announced this on Wednesday.
Among those charged are, the eldest son of the ousted President, Ex Presidential Spokesperson, Jessye Ella Ekogha, as well as four of his allies.
According to Libreville Prosecutor, Andre-Patrick Roponat, the aforementioned “have been charged and placed in provisional detention.
It will be recalled that, on August 30, members of the Presidential Guard staged a successful coup that toppled Ali Bongo from power.
The coup followed after a controversial election that saw Bongo return to power yet again, marking 24yrs in power, haven ruled taken over from his Father in 2009.
The Junta cited the “fraudulent” election as one of their reasons for seizing power.
One of Bongo’s sons, five senior cabinet officials and his wife, Sylvia Bongo Valentin, were all arrested on the same day the coup took place.
The Junta based their arrests on corruption as suitcases filled with cash was displayed on front of the arrestees as items allegedly seized from their houses.
