Military Leader, Oligui Sworn-in as Gabon Head of State

GABON has sworn-in military leader, General Brice Oligui Nguema, as the Head of State on Monday.

This comes after the ouster of former President, Ali Bongo, in a Coup one week ago.

While speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, vowed to conduct free and fair elections in due time.

“I swear before God and the Gabonese people to faithfully preserve the republican regime,” Oligui said.

Oligui, in the presence of Judges of the Constitutional Court, pledged to “preserve the achievements of democracy.”

Oligui pointed to the bloody-less coup which ousted Ali Bongo, whose family had held on to power in the Central African country for 55yrs.

The Coup came shortly after Bongo was sworn I to power again after a controversial election held.

The new military leader has now promised a government of inclusivity.

“With the new government, made up of experienced people, we’re going to give everyone a chance to hope,” Oligui promised.
