ANAMBRA State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has pledged to mount Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in Onitsha market and the Upper-weka area specifically, ahead of the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities this year.
The Governor declared this during a Business Roundtable session with manufacturers, importers, and exporters in Anambra state.
According to the Governor, the move is bring Anambra in line with Word standards in terms of security and safety.
The event tagged, ‘From Import to Industrialization for Export,’ was organized at the International Convention Centre, in the State capital, Awka, on Friday.
The event which was organized by the State Ministry of Commerce and Industry led by its Commissioner, Dr. Christian Udechukwu, discussed the challenges facing manufacturers, importers, and exporters in the state.
The roundtable session also looked into possible solutions to the challenges, as well as ways of attracting investment to the state in a bid to ensure maximum development and growth.
The Governor noted that criminal masterminds in the state were already scheming ahead of the yuletide season.
The CCTV installations were, therefore, a means of curbing these criminal activities.
Soludo explained that the traders in the market were constantly faced with the threat of hoodlums, shop burglars, handbags snatchers, illegal tax collectors, Kidnppers and other criminal practices being carried out in the market.
He assured that the cameras will be installed in all the market lines, while seeking the cooperation of the market people on the project.
Also discussed at the sessions were reforms approval process in ANSIPPA, which has hitherto been marred by administrative red tapes.
The Governor also revealed, at the meeting, that plans are being put in place to ensure that the processing time for acquiring land Certificate of Occupancy is trimmed down to 72 hours.
Soludo then pledged that, by December, Upper Iweka will become, not only an investment hub, but one of the safest places in Nigeria.
