SONIA Ekweramadu shared her account of the circumstances that led to her parents’ arrest and Sentences in an interview with BBC.
While reacting to the convictions of her parents for organ trafficking by the UK Court she said, “it was shocking getting arrested alongside her parents” .
The former deputy senate president’s daughter said although she understands the situation, she does not support the convictions of her parents .
Sonia who admitted her biassed view said she will always be on her parents’ side.
On speaking on her kidney condition, she affirmed that she has lymphatic syndrome, which means her kidney is small with large holes.
On asking further if she was involved in the search for a kidney, Sonia answered she wasn’t .
Adding that her family that took care of everything.
She also said that her father’s side were ruled out from donating because they have a history of kidney disease.
However, Ms Ekeweremadu refused to give a direct response about the 21-year-old Nigerian man who was brought to the U.K for the purported “kidney donation” as her cousin.
She also said they will be moving on from the case.
THE daughter also revealed that she has gotten so many donors after the case got to public space.
Sonai, who agrees that she feels guilty for her family troubles , stated that she and her parents don’t feel any anger towards the 21-year-old Nigerian man whose testimony led to their imprisonment.
According to her, her parents are usually calm when she visits them in jail.
Sonia added that things won’t remain the same following her parents’ conviction.
It was reported earlier today that a Central Criminal Court in Old Bailey, UK, sentenced former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, to nine years and eight months in prison for organ trafficking. The court also sentenced his wife, Beatrice, to four years and six months jail term.
