THE Independent National Electoral Commission – INEC, has addressed concerns and clarified the electoral process ahead of the November 11th governorship election in Bayelsa State.
Resident Electoral Commissioner – REC, of Bayelsa State, Obo Effanga, during an interactive session organised by INEC with stakeholders in Bayelsa, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to transparency and fair elections.
He clarified misinformation circulating in the media, reemphasising that INEC in Bayelsa will transmit the governorship election results via the commission’s Results Viewing Portal – IReV.
“Nothing has changed with how we are going to conduct these elections,” Effanga assured, emphasising that the electoral commission remains steadfast in its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible electoral process.
Effanga however, acknowledged the challenges faced during previous elections, particularly technical glitches in the use of the IReV.
The REC highlighted the measures taken by INEC in preparation for the upcoming elections.
“We have conducted training sessions for involved staff and security personnel and we have engaged in numerous meetings with stakeholders,’’ he said.
“We are working with security agencies, but our duty is to conduct elections. It is the duty of the security agents to secure the life and property of everyone participating in the election,” Effanga added.
