Manchester UTD Out of Champions League
Lose 1-0 To Group Leaders Bayern Munich At Old Trafford …
MANCHESTER United’s disastrous UEFA Champions League campaign came to an end with a 1-0 defeat to group winners Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
Erik ten Hag’s side managed just one victory from its six UCL fixtures — a 1-0 home victory against Copenhagen, on a late Harry Maguire header — en route to a last-place finish in Group A. In a group that also featured Galatasaray, Manchester United earned just four points from one win and one draw.
The Red Devils are not only out of the Champions League, but European competition altogether as Galatasaray will instead fall into the Europa League as 3rd-place finishers.
While they were only beaten 1-0 on a goal scored with just 20 minutes remaining, Manchester United were drastically outplayed by Bayern Munich, as they attempted just five total shots (one on target) over the 90 minutes of a must-win game.
One of their five shots came from inside the penalty area, from 17 yards out, with everything else coming from 20 yards and beyond.
Man United resisted frustrated Bayern’s superstar attacking unit for the most part, but eventually they found their way through. It was a clever flick by Harry Kane that unlocked the home side’s defense in the 70th minute, sending Kingsley Coman through on goal and one on one with Andre Onana. Coman was strong and decisive with his take, firing inside the far post to end his nearly two-month-long goal drought.
