Many Fatally Injured as Building Collapses in Abuja
A three-storey building in Garki, Abuja, has collapsed, AfriqueCan gathered.
The building collapse occured at about 11:30 pm on Wednesday night.
Following the tragic incident, the Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA), Fire Service and other relevant agencies have swung into action to rescue victims and salvage the situation.
The Director-General of FEMA, Dr. Abbass Idriss, confirmed 37 persons were rescued and rushed to different hospitals within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
He stated this on Thursday, while, also, pointing out that all relevant agencies were putting all hands on deck.
Idriss informed newsmen that the building collapse left two persons gravely injured.
“37 persons were rescued alive, while two others were fatally injured. Meanwhile, the FEMA Search and Rescue team is awaiting excavators to intensify the search to ensure that no victim is left in the rubble of the collapsed building.
“A combined team of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps, FCT Police Command and the VIO are on the ground to carry out the rescue efforts,” the FG said.
