MOVIE REVIEW: (A Simple Lie).. An Easily Predictable Twists and Turns

By Bolatito Adebayo

A Simple Lie is a witty drama about a lady who told a lie that triggers series of secrets to be revealed among friends.

I am of the opinion that among all the Biodun Stephen movies I have seen this is considerably less rousing and laid back. I expected the movie to be wild, wondrous, heartbreaking and hilarious.

However, the only part that is consistent among my expectations is the hilarious part.

This isn’t the best of Bisola Aiyeola, I have seen her take different roles, but I wasn’t so impressed by her character.

Bolaji Ogunmola killed her character better and as for Kie Kie Adeaga, I don’t know where to place her. Sometimes she did well and at other times she is all over the place.

I understand she is a comedic character, but the main problem is that she didn’t strike a good balance between when she is required to be serious or sensitive and when she is meant to be funny. The comedic part over shadows every other things.

More so, the dialogue is average, and the use of flashbacks became confusing; it isn’t well utilized.

This movie reminds me of The Visit, if you have seen The Visit, you will understand my expectation better. Probably if I did not see that earlier my expectations won’t be too high.

Although, there are turns and twists these become easily predictable.

Don’t get me wrong, A Simple Lie isn’t a bad movie.

The movie have some rib-cracking moments and a few surprise elements, but this movie isn’t something I would see again, it is just average.
