MOVIE REVIEW: SISTA… An Emotional Movie.

By Bolatito Adebayo

Get your tissues, please! Yes, you heard me right. If you are going to watch this movie there is no way Sista won’t pull your heartstrings.

This emotional movie is about deadbeat fathers, abandoned children and spouses. This well-scripted and patient film is graced by great performances that are a relative rarity in present-day Nollywood.

Sista explores themes like love, Trust, betrayal, parenting, absentee father, abandonment, single motherhood, friendship, marriage, resilience, forgiveness and hard work.

Kehinde Bankole’s passionate performances made the audience experience many heartfelt moments. Bisola’s Aiyeola character got the audience charmed and I won’t forget to mention the strong chemistry she shares with her co-star Deyemi Okanlawo is undeniable.

For me, Deyemi’s character is a bittersweet experience because at times I wanted to strangle him and at other times I was sympathetic but above all his performance is brilliant.

Tope Olowoniyan did well too, especially with her Hausa accent and all other characters gave remarkable performances.

The comedy embedded in the drama wasn’t over the top and it keeps it pretty light.

Sista radiates morals and emotions but without keeping a blind eye to its flaws.

On the flip side, the film which is directed by Biodun Stephen appears simple with no complexities at all, it is easily predictable and there are no fantastic technicalities.

Nonetheless, Sista exudes a sort of innocence and charm that engages the audience’s sympathy for its character.
