MOVIE REVIEW: (The Wildflower)… Slow Paced Emotional Drama That Blooms in The End

Bolatito Adebayo

The movie tells the story of three women, who suffer abuse from three men. One from her violent husband who would beat her at every slightest mistake. The other from her creepy boss who raped her and the third a teenager who was harassed sexually by a Neighbour.

The Wildflower navigates through the life of lead character, Damilare Kuku who played the role of Rolake Dabiri. Her tumultuous relationship with lustful boss, the cheeky romance with her boyfriend and the big sister relationship with Sandra Okunzuwa (Ada Olisa).

Obviously, this drama has a gallery of distinctive characters and offers buoyant performances from both fresh and familiar faces.

The themes of the story like rape, domestic violence, power intoxication, love, poverty and lust are well explored. This emotional drama pulls your heart strings and blooms as it explores the tedious path of women at every level in the society.  The cinematic shots are excellent, the plot well woven and tidy and the costume great too.

Nevertheless, the conflict resolution had more questions than answers. Also, the character development should have been better and comic relief is hideously done that Etinosa’s character isn’t amusing at all. I preferred Zubby Micheal dark humour. Zubby brought his A game on.

More so, when it comes to directing with a tight budget, kudos should be given to Biodun Stephen who directed this movie. She did a fantastic job with The Wildflower.

Above all, The Wildflower is slow paced but it’s an enjoyable watch.
