The Junta in Niger has promised a total return to democracy, only after 3years.
The military ruler, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, made this known on Saturday.
This comes after the Military Leader met with Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) delegates yesterday at the nation’s capital, Niamey.
While addressing the nation, Tchiani, insisted that the Junta and Nigeriens do not “want war.”
“I also reaffirm our readiness to engage in any dialogue, as long as it takes into account the orientations desired by the proud and resilient people of Niger,” Tchiani stated.
Tchiani, however, warned that they are ready to defend their territory if faced with external aggression.
“If an attack were to be undertaken against us, it will not be the walk in the park some people seem to think,” he said.
It will be recalled that the ECOWAS had set to meet with the Junta over the weekend.
The region bloc has promised that, if peaceful dialogue failed to yield profit, an invasion of the West African country would be the next resort.
This comes after the ouster of President Bazoum of Niger in a July 26th coup.
