THOUSANDS of Nigeriens turned out in the numbers in the country’s capital, Niamey, to drum support for the nation’s military junta.
The rally comes after the Junta declared it’s willingness to defend itself from any foreign intervention on Saturday.
Nigeriens chanted and sang against France, as well as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
“Stop the military intervention” and “No to sanctions” were some of the banners the demonstrators bore in the rally.
Only yesterday, the Head of the military junta in Niger Republic, General Abdourahamane Tiani, promised to return power to democratic settings after 3yrs.
This comes after ECOWAS delegates met with the Junta leader to dialogue.
The ECOWAS believe that dialogue should come first, and if that fails, their “standby forces” would be ready to intervene in Niger.
