Obasanjo Orders Monarchs in Oyo To “Stand up”

EX Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, delivered a lecture to some traditional rulers in Oyo State, on Friday, about the need to show respect, as well as uphold culture and tradition.

The past Leader admonished the Monarchs on this during the inauguration of the 34.85km Oyo-Iseyin Road and the completed Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Iseyin Campus, which houses the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources.

Obasanjo, as the event progressed, then ordered the Monarchs to immediately stand.

He insisted that the Monarchs must observe this sign of respect while in the presence of a President or Governor.

“Age and position are two important things in Yoruba land, amongst others.

“When a governor is still in power, his position is higher than that of any king,” Obasanjo pointed out.

“Even when I was the President, I prostrated for kings but when I was indoors, the kings would prostrate for me.

“So, let’s always honour our culture,” the former Head of State stated.
