THE Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has thrown his weight behind the ongoing protests by the Nigeria Labour Congress – NLC, and the Trade Union Congress – TUC.
While speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, the Governor described the palliatives for fuel Subsidy removal being proposed by President Bola Tinubu as a “fraud.”
Earlier the same day, the Unions kick-started their planned protests against the fuel subsidy removal, fuel price increase, astronomical school fees hike, as well as other unpopular policies by the Tinubu-led government.
Following the ongoing protests in many states, Obaseki has moved to show his support for the Unions and sympathise with their plight.
“In Edo state, we are labour friendly. We must stop this palliative fraud of the federal government. I want to call on the labour,” the Governor said while speaking to protesting workers in Edo State.
“Let them give the local government the money to give to the people because the Federal Government has no business buying grains, giving contracts to buy palliatives for people across the 774 local governments in Nigeria. We must stop this fraud,” Obaseki said in direct response to the Presidency.
While protests are ongoing in Edo State, the same can be said of Lagos, Kano and many other states of the federation.
In the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, protesters were spotted pulling down the gate of the National Assembly and invading the premises.
