Obi Condemns ‘Despicable’ Kano Attack on Buhari

THE Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi says the reported stoning of President Muhammadu Buhari’s convoy in Kano State is “barbaric and un-Nigerian.”

Obi and his party, through a statement signed by the Head of Media of LP Presidential Campaign Council, Diran Onifade on Tuesday, said the President represents the sovereignty of the Nation.

According to the statement, the LP noted that President, Muhammadu Buhari is a father figure, adding that an assault on him would be regarded as sacrilegious by the Nigerian culture.

The Labour Party “sympathised” with the President, and urged law enforcement agencies to rise to the occasion, by appropriately investigating and bringing the perpetrators before the law”.

“Our future depends on a peaceful and stable polity, and we urge our supporters, and the good people of Nigeria, to remain steadfast and determined in expressing their electoral choice and participating in this process, but never to lose their calm and discretion,” the statement added.

It would be recalled that a spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress – APC, presidential campaign council, Bayo Onanuga dismissed the claim of the attack on Monday as “imaginary,” despite viral videos of the incident being circulated on social media.
