THE First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has launched a National Scholarship Programme tagged, ‘Renewed Hope Initiative.’
46 Nigerian students from 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have now benefitted from the scholarship grants.
The beneficiaries were unveiled at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Special Adviser to the First Lady on Media, Busola Kukoyi, disclosed this in a statement released on Saturday.
Kukoyi explained that other beneficiaries of the scholarship were nominated by the National Council for Women Societies, and the Defence Staff and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), among other women societies.
The Beneficiaries were the first batch of recipients at the launch of the Initiative for Tertiary Education.
The First Lady and National President of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu CON, congratulated the recipients of the scholarship, while emphasizing that the Initiative was determined to assist any student with an interest in tertiary institution.
“With the National Scholarship Programme (NASP), we envision a Nigeria where every child , regardless of their circumstances, can access the best education available.
“It is not just about textbooks and classrooms, it is about igniting curiosity, speaking innovation and fostering a love of learning that will transcend generations..
“The inaugural National Scholarship Programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative is a four year scholarship programme of One Million Naira per year and a laptop for each beneficiary.
“Today we are empowering 46 students from across the states,” the First Lady put.
Tinubu also warned the students that their results will continually be reviewed.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu and the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmood.
