PDP Calls for The Arrest of INEC Chairman

THE Peoples Democratic Party – PDP, Friday asked security agents to arrest and investigate the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission – INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu over alleged manipulation of the February 25 presidential election result.

The PDP through its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba also asked Yakubu to resign his position as the chairman of the electoral body.

The party alleged that the February 25 presidential election results were mutilated, adding that INEC deliberately refused to transmit polling units results as provided by the Electoral Act.

“The PDP demands that the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, immediately steps down from office, having abused the confidence and dashed the hope of millions of Nigerians as well as political parties and the international community for a free, fair and credible election.

The party, according to Ologunagba, believed that Yakubu’s exit will be the first step to rebuilding confidence in the electoral body.

He also asked the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, the Department of State Services – DSS, and INEC to commence an investigation of the INEC Chairman.

“The PDP demands that the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Directorate of State Services immediately commence investigations into the electoral violations and manipulations by INEC with the view to prosecuting Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu and other officials of the commission for electoral offences,” Ologunagba said.

“In the same vein, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission should open an investigation into allegations that certain top officials of INEC were heavily compromised financially to manipulate the electoral process.
