Plateau Tribunal Affirms Gov Mutfwang’s Election Victory
THE Plateau Election Petition Tribunal has affirmed the victory of the state Governor, Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the last polls.
The Tribunal sitting in Jos delivered its judgment on Friday.
The three-member panel chaired by Justice Sunday Olorundahunsi dismissed the petition of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, as lacking merit.
All three grounds of Yilwatda’s petition were unanimously thrown out by the Tribunal.
Recall that, on March 20, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Mutfwang as the winner of the election amassing 525,299 votes, while Yilwatda came in 2nd place with 481,370 votes.
The results from the body showed PDP won in 10 local government areas (LGAs), including Pokkos, Bassa, Lantang North, Langtang South, Riyom, Mikang, Mangu, Jos East, Qua’an Pan and Barkin Ladi.
The APC won in seven LGAs of Jos East, Kanke, Kanam, Pankshin, Shendam, Wase, and Jos North.
Following the tribunal ruling, the declaration of Gov Murfwang by INEC has been upheld.
