POLICE arrested 30 suspects Monday in Ishagamu, Ogun State following attacks on banks and businesses by hoodlums.
The unrest was triggered by ongoing fuel and cash scarcity. Shops and offices were forcefully locked as protesters attacked banks and business premises. Cars were also set ablaze.
State Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba said the 30 suspects were arrested in connection with the unrest.
The Commissioner of Police warned against violent protests, saying the action would compound the already fragile situation in the country.
According to residents, Oba Erinwole Road was the most affected area. Seven branches of commercial banks were attacked and ATM machines vandalised and looted.
