THE Nigeria Police in Rivers State has apprehended a suspect in connection to the killing of DPO Bako Angbashim.
The arrest of one of the suspects was confirmed on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko.
The suspect, whose identity was not revealed by the Force, is believed to be a member of the gang who killed DPO, SP Bako Angbashim.
Recall that, Superintendent of Police, Angbashim, met his death when, earlier in September 8, he led his men to raid criminal spots in the Odemude community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of the state.
The DPO and his men were ambushed by the dreaded cult group led by Okpara, who opened fire in the Police team and subsequently captured Angbashim, all while documenting their criminal act on tape.
A viral video soon surfaces showing the gang members celebrating over their triumph.
This led to the State Police Command launching a manhunt for the killers.
The arrested suspect was on the verge of being served jungle justice by a mob but for the timely intervention of the Police.
“The Rivers State Police operatives on Monday, 25/09/2023 at about 19:43hrs acting on actionable information received that in Edoaha Community in Ahoada East, one of the suspects who brutally killed SP Bako Angbashim was about to be lynched to death by an angry mob,” she stated.
“Subsequently, a team of policemen swung into action to rescue the suspect who was about to be burnt with a tyre on his neck. He was rescued and brought to the station where he made a useful statement.
“He was later transferred to SCID for discreet investigation with a view to apprehend the fleeing kingpin, his gang members, and to recover their operational weapons,” the statement from the Command stated.
Governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara, has offered a reward of one hundred million naira to anyone who aids in the capture of the gang’s kingpin, Gift David Okpara Okpolowu and the other gang members.
