Suspected Jihadists Kill 53 Burkina Faso Security Personnel
SUSPECTED Jihadists attack has left 53 members the Burkina Faso security forces dead in Northern Burkina Faso.
This news was made known by the country’s Army on Tuesday.
In a statement released by the Army General staff, 17 soldiers and 36 civilian volunteers died in the attack.
30 members of the security forces were also left injured in the attack.
According to the statement, the affected unit was deployed to Koumbri town in Yatenga province to ensure the resettlement of residents earlier chased out of the area by jihadists.
The Army, however, declared that it led a counter operation that saw a large number of Jihadists attackers “neutralized” and their combat equipment destroyed.
The Army also announced that it is still carrying out operations in the area.
According to reports from NGOs in the country, over 16,000 civilians, troops and police have died in Jihadists attacks since the turn of the year.
Also, over two million people have been displaced in Burkina Faso so far.
The country’s inability to check the insurgency of Jihadists has seen Burkina Faso record two military coups in 2022.
