MANCHESTER City defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0 in their Saturday afternoon English Premier League (EPL) encounter.
The Citizens sealed the win in the first half of the clash, with all of their goals coming in that half.
Nottingham Forest will curse their luck as they should have done more to get back in the game when Man City’s Rodri saw red at the start of the second half.
Pep Guardiola’s side opened the scoring at the Etihad stadium as early as the 7th minute through academy graduate, Phil Foden.
The reigning Champions were in boisterous mood at home as their deadly hitman, Erling Haaland, made it 2 for them 7minute later.
Forest looked jaded and outclassed by the far superior City side who were in no mood for slipups.
Tensions always looked to boil over in a game laden with cards.
City Manager, Pep Guardiola, got on the Referee’s bad books for dissent as well.
The first half eventually ended, a convincing 2-0 lead for City going into the break.
The second half started disastrously for City as holding midfielder, Rodri, bagged a Red card in the 46th minute.
Forest striker, Awoniyi, should have pulled one back for his side, but missed a glorious chance in the 58th minute.
Forest, due to the numerical advantage had more of the ball, but that didn’t stop Haaland from almost making it 3-0 in the 78th minute if he hadn’t missed his clear-cut chance.
Guardiola’s outfit held on for the win in a game where Forest never looked threatening despite going for large spells with a man advantage over their hosts.
2-0 the final score as City stretched their lead at the top of the EPL standings to 18points, 5 ahead of Tottenham who play Arsenal in a much anticipated London derby tomorrow, Sunday afternoon.
