ARSENAL were forced to a 2-2 draw in their first North London derby of the season against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
The encounter was everything neutrals hoped for: goals and excitement.
The game started on a poor note for Tottenham as a Bukayo Saka shot was turned into his own net by defender, Cristian Romero, in the 26th minute.
Arsenal looked charged up in the encounter as they went for the kill with a flurry of incursions into the the Hotspur penalty area.
Brazilian star, Gabriel Jesus, should really have killed the contest in the first half after a slip up from James Madison in the box. Jesus nicked the ball from behind but blazed his shot well over the bar from such close range.
Tottenham came agonizingly close to grabbing the equalizer through new signing, Brennan Johnson, in the 38th minute and will wonder in shock how Arsenal Goalie, David Raya, punched his goal bound shot away.
Arsenal were made to rue those missed chances as the in-form Spurs side soon grabbed their equalizer in the 42nd minute after Player of the Month, James Maddison, teed up Heung-Min Son for the strike.
The first half ended all square as both sides headed for the tunnel.
The second half began in even more frantic fashion after the Video Assistant Referee spotted a Cristian Romero handball to award Arsenal a penalty.
Saka stepped up to slot home the resulting spot kick to restore Arsenal’s slim lead.
Tottenham were not to be out fought as they got the equalizer just 1minute after Saka’s goal.
Heung-Min Son was once again on hand to bail his team out with a goal when they needed it the most.
Tottenham probed in the 69th minute for the lead but saw a Son shot blocked.
As the game wore on, both teams became weary of going behind late on, with the draw looking the most likely outcome.
Despite the fourth official giving 10mins of added time to the contest, the game ended 2-2, no victor, no vanquished.
