Tribunal Sacks LP’s Lagos Rep, Sowunmi, Declares APC’s Ogunyemi Winner

THE return of Labour Party (LP)’s Seyi Sowunmi, as Member House of Representatives for Ojo Federal Constituency In Lagos has been nullified by a National Assembly Elections Tribunal sitting in Lagos.

A 3-man panel led by Justice Abdullahi Ozegya, instead, proclaimed All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Candidate Lanre Ogunyemi as the rightfully elected candidate of the February 25, 2023 election.

The APC Candidate, Ogunyemi, objected the declaration of LP’s Sowunmi by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the election.

He argued that the Sowunmi was not duly sponsored and qualified to contest the elections under the candidacy of Labour Party for Ojo Federal Constituency.

The tribunal agreed with his argument and held that the respondent was, indeed, not qualified to contest the elections.

Sowunmi’s votes were subsequently declared null and void, with the second placed, Ogunyemi, declared winner instead.
