TWO Officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have been killed as gunmen attacked a police patrol in Enugu state.
AfriqueCan gathered that the incident happened late Wednesday evening along the Udi-Ozalla Road.
The slain operatives attached to the ‘Operation Restore Peace Enugu’ team were conducting a routine patrol when armed men attacked their convoy.
The office were confirmed dead by Ituku-Ozalla, a medical doctor at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) where the dead officers were rushed to, as well as another injured officer.
The dead officers are: Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Danjuma Joseph and Inspector Abu Elamaje.
The injured officer, Inspector Udeme Udomeng, who sustained bullet wounds, was treated and discharged, while the bodies of the dead officers were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
The State Police Command is yet to issue any official statement on the incident but a source within the command confirmed the attack while assuring that the Command was doing everything possible to bring the culprits to book.
“MINE and other Command tactical teams reinforced at the area of incident on cordon and search operation for possible arrest of suspects. Further development shall be communicated,” the source assures.
