THE United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) has finally lifted the visa ban it had initially places on Nigerian travelers.
The ban lift was revealed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Monday.
This comes on the back of a groundbreaking agreement between President Bola Tinubu and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, same day.
The ban had been in place for close to a year before its lifting.
The agreement automatically means that Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines will immediately restart flight operations in and out of Nigeria.
The government of Nigeria is not expected to make any payments for the resumption of these flight schedules.
“In recognition of President Tinubu’s economic development diplomacy drive and proposals today presented by President Tinubu to his counterpart, an agreed framework has been established, which will involve several billions of U.S. dollars worth of new investments into the Nigerian economy across multiple sectors, including defense, agriculture and others, by the investment arms of the Government of the United Arab Emirates.
“Additionally, President Tinubu is pleased to have successfully negotiated a joint, new foreign exchange liquidity programme between the two Governments, which will be announced in detail in the coming weeks,” the statement read.
President Tinubu lauded the UAE President, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for this historic agreement which he opined will bring mutual success to both nations.
