Why Men Cheat! The Banky W-Adesuwa Infidelity Saga

By Kesandu Egburonu

Reports that Banky W was caught cheating on wife, Adesuwa, hit like a platinum album and had everyone singing the tale of the Singer turned Politician’s tale of infidelity. The couple have always looked like a match-made in heaven. Adesuwa, so pretty and lovable and Banky, so fair and gentlemanly, you’d argue if he was even capable of hurting a fly. Maybe this persona made us all forget the possibility of this union being rocked with infidelity. It is, after all, marriage and the vows, “for better for worse,” indicates a likelihood of problems like this arising.

What is interesting about this particular cheating story is the “who” are “who” involved. As per reports, Banky soiled his marriage vows with Niyola. Now, this is no fling or chance meeting: Both Banky and Niyola have a long history that predates his union with Adesuwa. For those who don’t remember, Banky was once Boss of EME, a record label that once had Wizkid, Skales and the accused, Niyola on its payroll. It was Niyola who sang that trending song then, ‘Toh Bad.’ Oh! Now you remember?

It is only natural that those who share the same work environment for a long time might start to develop feelings for each other. I have been there and know how chemistry, mutual respect, trust and ultimately, love, could develop between colleagues, as well as employers and their employees. Nothing is off the table or considered “impossible” when it comes to affairs of the heart.

Now, we’ve already talked about how handsome man Banky is. Have you seen Niyola up close and personal? Boy! She is a beauty to behold. When you hear the term “melanin,” it’s most likely Niyola they are talking about! She is one pretty chocolate cake just waiting to be devoured by the one whom the gods deem fit! In this scenario, it appears the oracle chose Banky and so we have a case of melanin fusing with gold. Of course, black and white & yellow and dark always have a knack for attracting each other.

Forgive me if I’m making this sin look colourful; I am simply trying to put myself in both their shoes in an attempt to understand why Banky cheated on the delectable Adesuwa. Could it be because of beauty? Certainly not. Though not melanin herself, Adesuwa is as pretty as any woman I’ve come across. Could it be because of a big bum and tits? Niyola and Adesuwa seem cut out from the same material. Their body shapes are nearly identical so, it’s not like Niyola has some curves Adesuwa doesn’t. If it’s not any of these, then what is the reason?

There are many who will tell you that it is in the nature of man to cheat. This is the reason many women attribute to the rising cases of men cheating in their relationships and marriage, but, is this really a fact or just a myth? I have seen quite a number of men who don’t cheat in relationships and marriages I know. Except their wives and girlfriends lied to me, that’s the fact I know and that makes me feel cheating isn’t a general thing. On the other hand, I’ve known many who strayed away from women who looked to me like the perfect specimen, only to cheat on them with women I’d comparably regard as “inferior.” It’s debatable and that validates the point that cheating isn’t after a general thing but rather subjective—from man to man, person to person.

Something sticks out, though: The Nigeria entertainment industry is annoyingly saturated with men who habitually cheat. From actors, to singers, you name it. It does appear like these entertainment guys can’t help but cheat. The case of Singer, Burna Boy, is still somewhat fresh in our minds, after he cheated on his then lover, the sexy British Rapper, Stefflon Don, for another sexy lady, Jo Pearl. He sang a song about his infidelity and mourned his mistake but that didn’t change anything.

There are also the cases of Singers,Olamide, Wizkid, Davido and their role model, Tuface Innocent Ididbia, all of whom have cheated to the extent that they have baby mamas and babies littered everywhere. It’s a circus. We’ve been down this road before and the only thing that has changed each time is the name of the accused. Don’t even get me started with the “men are scum” narrative women use to spite men. The so-called scum men didn’t cheat with animals or the same sex: They cheated with women. So, if men are such scum, the women should have known better and looked out for their fellow gender.

Even though I think men have a high probability of cheating, just as all humans have of sinning, it gets worse when you are a rich, famous and a handsome celebrity. The temptation multiplies because, now, you have the resources to cheat and the women who you cheat on with have a far greater motive to want to be with you. It’s a sin made in hell and delivered straight to earth in the most attractive package, you’d have no choice but to bite the tempting apple just like Eve did in genesis.

I do feel for Adesuwa. She’s such a darling. Mere looking at her, she looks like the kind of woman a man should worship, not cheat on, but then, it is what it is. The deed has been done and both spouses need to focus on repairing the crack in their marriage and moving on. I wish I could knock Niyola, but she bit the tempting apple and laying blame now won’t fix anything.

For the record, cheating is not a way of life for men. There are celebrities and regular people who haven’t made this lifestyle customary. At least, for their sake, let us assume this is not a normal unavoidable thing for the male gender. It can be avoided and should as it favours nobody at the end. To Banky, I hope your marriage does not suffer the same defeat you suffered at the last General elections. The same way you rose from your fall at the polls; rise from this mess as well and fix up your marriage from this Niyola Tsunami that hit it.
